On Thursday the 6th of December 1990, locals in the Tsarichina village awoke to the sound of military machinery on their doorsteps and barricades being erected. A dig had begun. A dig that would see the small township of Tsarichina become a hotbed of unexplained events, governments coverups and supernatural phenomena that would eventually be dubbed Bulgaria’s Area 51.
In the already mysterious world of UFO Lore, rarely does a case contain everything Tsarichina does. Confirmed government operations, photos of the dig site, multiple living witnesses, destroyed documents, psychic connections, paranormal phenomena, and even a mysterious object that was allegedly retrieved by a UFO called “Object No. 1”. For anyone intrigued by the possibility of non-human intelligence visiting our planet, I implore you to go on a deep dive and find what you can regarding this case as I won’t be able to include all of it in this article. I have however included a brief synopsis of the events that took place below:
- A 100m spiral hole is dug into the ground by Bulgarian government/military. They claim they are searching for Tsar Samuel’s treasure, but this is refuted by many as a cover story.
- A local woman claims she is in contact with NHI (Non-Human Intelligence). Her name is Elisaveta Loginova. The Bulgarian military believe her to the point where they ask her to come in to assist with what they are calling ‘Operation Sun Ray’. Loginova begins to write notebook after notebook of strange messages and symbols. Claiming they are being sent to her from the Alien entities, also searching for what is within the hole.
- During the time of the hole being dug, many townspeople experience UAP and other strange paranormal phenomena.
- The team decides to contact Baba Vanga, the famed prophet who is apparently already aware of the situation and describes a genderless “Majmun”, or Ape/Monkey in Bulgarian that is sealed in the ground.
“You will reach а capsule. Тhe content – canned. You do not know if the capsule is pressurised. What are you going to do with that monkey? Yellow monkey – neither man nor woman. If the airtight lid is opened, that creature can be revived from the air. What are you going to do, I ask, when did it wakes up and speaks?” - At some point during the dig, they reach a point where the walls of the tunnel are unbreakable. With Loginova’s help, they place explosives and manage to breach the walls.
- Reports of a craft retrieving “something “Object no.1” from the hole, before the entire operation is shut down and the documents pertaining to the event destroyed.
It seems insane to consider, but allegedly, Object No. 1 was the first humanoid being to walk the planet earth. The real and original Adam. There has even been FOIA (Freedom of Information Requests) submitted to the American Government (Strange considering this took place in Bulgaria) regarding this object.

Regardless of what actually happened at the dig site, this case has enthralled me since the moment I began reading about it and for those willing to do a bit of digging, there is already a plethora of information available regarding the finer details of this case. One such piece of information that I struggled to find though, was the location of the hole. And that brings us to the purpose of this article. The real world location, of the Tsarichina Hole.
There are a couple of reasonably well known photos of the dig operation that you can find online.
but one in particular stood out to me.
The road, the hill and the houses. This was all information that I could work with, and after doing some sleuthing online, I managed to find a post from a user on the AboveTopSecret forum that claimed to live in the area, and visited the site as recently as 2021.
With their post, they linked a picture of a building that they claim, had been placed over the hole after it was filled with cement.
Based on the photo above, and the information I had regarding the hill, the hill in the background, the houses and the area, I took to google maps. The building itself was rather significant, as I knew I was searching for a small, tall structure, with multiple power lines connecting to it. There was also a road to the left, with a slight left hand bend and multiple smaller roads shooting off to the right. After a couple of hours searching on google maps, I believe I had found a match.
The green arrow above, points to the same building from the picture. The small blue icon above the building is placed upon a large boulder. The marker reads: Обект ‘Дупката. Which translates to Object: The Hole.
At this point, I was pretty confident that I had found the right place, however there are many, many holes in the world. A marker stating a hole existed here, didn’t necessarily mean it was the hole I was searching for.
It was at this point that I noticed Google Street View was available from the main road beside the small building.
And straight away, I saw similarities between the street view photo, and the original photo of the alleged dig site. Utilising photoshop, I overlaid the two photos on top of one another, and attempted to outline some of the key features to see if they would match. The road, the houses, etc.
Even though I believed I had found the hole, multiple questions remained. What was that building? That seems like an awful lot of electrical cabling for such a small structure. Why is it not more closely guarded? What would happen if someone took LiDAR up there and attempted to run a scan?
Whether you believe in the story or not, the place is special for UFO enthusiasts world wide. And by confirming the real world location of the hole, I feel like I had made the alleged events that took place, a little more real to me.
